Since weeks there was a feeling inside me to go to the abandoned camp
a feeling as if my name was called, to come
and stay there for to work . . .
Today I did it.
There was emptiness and silence . . .
No people were walking around,
no mothers sitting with their children at the stones,
no children on bike
no children laughing, shouting, smiling, playing, singing,
jumping around everywhere . . .
no voices talking about maladministration in the camp
as e.g. no proper and no fresh ventilation in the family tent
no students on their way to our lessons ...
At the rocks I started to work . . .
When I closed my eyes for a while . . .
then
I see the people enter our tent for the lessons
I hear their voices . . .
I see Rohjda and Rosim grateful smile while we paint and learn the first german words in the children's tent
I see Ibrahim and Ahmed paint on a hot sunny saturday afternoon
I see Adnan on bike smiling
I see the couple with their new born baby
I hear Warda asking me for a big bag
I hear voices talking exciting about the situation in Aleppo and Afrin
I see mothers and fathers with their children sitting on the rocks under the trees
I see children without their father
I am deeply touched by Ali's joy when learning to read the alphabet and the first words
I hear my new friend from Kurdistan wishing me "Guten Morgen, Peter!"
I hear with great joy Hamida und Lina speak their first german words
. . .
I see the happy face of a young mother when she got shoes and a jacket
and all of a sudden I got a kiss on my cheek from her little daughter
in deep gratitude . . .
I see my students Nijeb, Juana, Hamida, Lina, Ali, Maher, Midia, Khalida, Ali, Perwin, Azad . . .
I hear the sound of their voices, I hear their laughter when we share some fun . . .
I see their smiling faces, I see their sadness
You are in safety here
we learn together,
we share time, we share opinions, ideas, longings, dreams . . .
we learn from each other . . .
. . .
I am so grateful for every minute, for every moment
and for everything we shared together!
A soft rain started to fall
while my small works found a place at the fence of the abandoned camp.
Joy and sadness are so close together . . .
I enjoyed the soft rain falling
I enjoyed the soft rain falling touching my works
and touching my heart . . .
to my students, to my families, to all the children and to my friends.
Love to you all,
